DISCLAIMER I RECEIVED THIS BOOK FOR FREE AS PART OF THE LITFUSE PUBLICITY BLOGGERS PROGRAM IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW NO OTHER FORM OF COMPENSATION WAS GIVEN AND ALL OPINIONS EXPRESSED IN THIS REVIEW ARE MY OWNHonestly this review is one of the most difficult articles I have ever written The topic this book tackles holds massive weight as much as it s ignored by the majority of the public However those affected by it are the ones bringing attention to the issue MostlyOne in ten 1 in 10 girls will be abused by age eighteen That statistic means that one out of every ten females you pass on the street was probably abused If you my reader are one of those girls know that I will be speaking directly to you in this article First I want you to know that the fact that you are reading this review indicates that you are already on the Journey to HealSo is this book worthy of being one of your traveling companions on the journey Well let us find outIntroductionThis is a short read its length suitable for a weekend reading binge However I don t recommend tackling this non intimidating book in two days Journey to Heal takes you on an emotional rollercoaster and you will be better off reading through the chapters on a weekly basisThe author speaks to you as a friend as her words resonate with abuse survivors much than if they were coming from an abuse free history My copy is sprinkled with tears Hearing from another survivor that the abuse wasn t your fault that phrase means so much when the person who speaks it suffered through the same things This wording is repeated throughout the book as Crystal strives to speak the truth Each chapter is accompanied by encouraging words and personal anecdotes constantly reminding you that no matter how much the journey hurts you ve got this And those words are what keep you goingAbout a uarter into the book I arrived at the section where Crystal speaks of her PTSD diagnosis I lost it I had to close the book to keep from rendering it useless due to my onslaught of tears In the Introduction Crystal writes of the start of her abuse While our perpetrators differ vastly the beginnings of our stories are similar in substance I lost it there as well Again the book closed and I cried I cried a lotThe Inner WorkingsIn the book as a whole you are given seven steps to take on the road to healing These steps are akin to rest stops on a roadtrip but less fun These rest stops are broken down into manageable chunks like an itinerary These itinerary items never leave God out of the recovery euation as Crystal states Only the Lord can fill the gap in your soul that the abuse left Of course the exact uote is elouent but the gist is still there Each chapter you are tasked with reflection upon a relevant given prompt reading several Bible verses writing in your Truth Journal and other such tasksWhile the book s length might fool you this is one book that you will want to read slowly I recommend completing one task each day or one chapter a week There s no reason to rush through this book It reads like a companion guide not a be all end allConclusionIn the dark void of non fiction books like Journey to Heal are difficult to find both in terms of subject matter and uality There are innumerable uantities of inspirational books and a good half of those employ Christian themes A uarter of those inspirational books revolve around abuse and half of those revolve specifically around childhood sexual abuse and half of those involve Christian themes So as you can see Journey to Heal is in a small niche and is made even rare by involving Christianity And it s a good book okay It s a really good book Crystal is inspirational and I wish her wondrous success in all her future endeavorsIf you suffered through childhood sexual abuse or if you know someone who has I recommend adding this book to your library or giving this book to someone who would benefit from itAnd now if you will excuse me I need to write the daily entry in my Truth JournalRecommended ForWomen childhood sexual abuse survivorsThe above who desire a companion guide to therapy that involves the Christian faithThe above who developed PTSD as a result of their abuseReview written by Alexandra Beverly
