Free read Beautiful Tears Enemies to Lovers #1 õ PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB Court It was too easy But that was five years ago And now Brandt has been released He's coming for me This time I'm not waiting around I'm going to run so far away that no one will ever find me The trouble is you can't hide from money Eventu. Brandt Browning has spend five years in prison for a crime that he didn t commit his parents disowned him his friends turned there backs on him While in prison he suffered a lot of abuse at the hands of his cellmate Harper is the reason Brandt went to jail when she told a lie and she knows that he is coming for her This was a tell if revenge a man whose life was taken from him with a lie Harper had her reasons for doing what she did although in this book we didn t get to find out why I also didn t like Brandt s parents they wouldn t help him but they want to control with money Harper hasn t had it easy she married a man who abused her she was evicted from apartment and she also has to worry about her husband s friends When Brandt begins torturing her she tries to get away but he catches her This was a good read that left a lot of uestions unanswered This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling I am looking forward to reading the next book

Free read Beautiful Tears Enemies to Lovers #1 õ PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB Ally Brandt will catch up with me and when he does he'll want payment in blood I'm not strong enough to resist the pull between us If that man gets his hands on me he'll realise I'm still half in love with him and that can only end in disaste. First I want to warn potential readers that this book ends on a cliffhanger Lately I ve found that and book blurbs do not include this disclaimer such as Awakening and I m unclear why I assume that authors don t want frustrated readersI ve read two other of Ms Mandara s books The Velvet Chair and The Velvet Caress I ve not yet read The Velvet Collar and have mixed feelings about that On the one hand I like to finish what I start On the other I found the first two books exhausting as the characters careened from one over the top crisis to one over the top punishment after another I found myself simultaneously admiring the characters stamina and wishing they d slow down long enough to actually react to feel or even consider some emotion separate from sexual arousal If those two books and this one are any example Ms Mandara is of the philosophy that is good when often all it does is desensitize the reader at least it did with me I also really liked one secondary couple Leyland and Marianna who as far as I could tell we never saw againBelow are my thoughts on this book take them as you wish Beautiful Tears joins a very long line of books in which the H kidnaps imprisons and sexually tortures the h one version of the enemies to lovers trope Measha Stone does it in practically all her pet series Jane Henry in her bratva series and other authors in the occasional book Mastering His Captive In some cases the H plans to teach the h the true nature of her submission but in this particular story Brandt wants to avenge himself on Harper are these really British names whose false testimony sent him to prison for five years In this respect Beautiful Tears resembles the Velvet Lies series since Mark also thinks Jennifer betrayed him Side note Just talking to these women never seems to have entered these two men s mindsFirst let me state what worked for me1 Ms Mandara isn t a bad writer and in a genre in which so many are this is no small praise Her sentences are complex and relatively error free her characters have distinct motivations and backstories her erotic scenes are detailed and well described and while they do drive the story there is also an actual plot though again in this case I felt much of it was too reminiscent of The Velvet Chair particularly given how manipulative and controlling Brandt s father is2 I also appreciate her characters For one thing unlike far too many h s in this genre her women aren t weak while Harper doesn t fight her attraction she does try to escape several times and unlike far too many H s in this genre her men aren t trying to make them docile and keep them safe In this particular case the author also did a good job of eliciting empathy for both characters Unlike so many books that use this particular revenge trope I could actually understand Brandt s desire for revenge since Harper whatever her motivations which are only hinted at in this book did do a horrible thing by framing him for a crime he didn t commit At the same time I did feel for Harper since her life has obviously been awful when he finds her she s sleeping on a bench and we get the sense that she may have been forced to do what she did Since I cared about them both the story did pull me in3 I really really appreciate that the sexual practices aren t based on gender essentialism since some of Ms Mandara s H s do switch as does happen here There was none of this me man you woman therefore you have to submit that is so prevalent in far too many of these books which can make some people look upon BDSM as misogynistic Authors I suggest if you don t want people to do this you stop writing misogyny into your stories For my disclaimer to this see belowNow here s what didn t work for me1 I agree with other reviewers that we needed backstory on Brandt and Harper s relationship While I suspect we ll get it in the subseuent books we really needed it here For one thing unless we fully understand why and how much they used to care for each other their ambivalence towards one another now doesn t make any sense uite frankly why should Brandt care at all for a woman whose actions really did consign him to hell As it stands now the book indicates that they sorta kinda liked each other in college Well okay but the fact that they thought the other was cute doesn t explain why Brandt simultaneously feels so much hatred and love for Harper that her memory is the one thing that gets him through prison In other words the strong feelings they display for each other in the present aren t at all supported by the vague descriptions we get of what they felt for each other in the past2 I realize this is fantasy but given that the book is set in our contemporary world a certain amount of credibility is expected Here I had to suspend so much disbelief that it took me out of the story For one thing Brandt s plans to force Harper into recanting her false testimony about him were ridiculous While I realize he wasn t thinking straight he never at any point realized that his tactics weren t working Doing something over and over again while expecting a different result when you keep getting the same is the definition of obliviousness and it became very frustrating and unbelievable for this reader after a while In addition why did he never wonder about her condition too thin sleeping on a bench when he found her one suitcase filled with old clothes Given his obsession with her his lack of curiosity about this was odd And it made no sense that his father so concerned for the family name would refuse to protect his son anyone obsessed with social standing would in fact do the opposite Finally given that Brandt wasn t pardoned just released there was no mention of any parole regulations for example how on earth was he allowed to view spoilertravel outside the country hide spoiler
