So after I compulsively joined this website I remembered that I barely have any time to read and most of my time is spent reading this textbook BUT as far as nursing textbooks go its actually pretty good especially for a conservative nursing school in the deep South The writers have chosen to present information in a way that is non pathologizing of the birth process and they state this commitment throughout the text Also little things like always referring to the laboring woman s certified nurse midwife or physician in that order of course no mention of lay or granny midwives but I ll take what I can get I can imagine this being a good supplementary text for doulas particularly to get background on anatomy and physiology

This text is uite thorough but there are many inconsistencies throughout that made studying rather confusing at times eg the exact date when you can first hear the fetal heart rate it seriously changes like every chapter Plus the text is from the United States which also complicated studying because I had to discern what was relevant for Canadian practice I didn t realize how useful Canadianization of texts actually is until we had to use an American text hah A thorough editing and a Canadian edition would make this an excellent resource
